Questions by Gabriel Gignac of Grizzly Media
Grizzly Media have the opportunity to ask 10 questions to the american record producer, Chris ¨Zeuss¨ Harris, the guy behind succesful album of Wednesday 13, Rob Zombie and Hatebreed notably.
Q : At first, I want to know how the music come in your Life ?
A :I started playing guitar at around 11 years old. Then learned bass and drums.
Q : Why are you beeing producer rather a musician or a singer ?
A: I started as a musician and recording and producing came naturally to me. I never intended to be an engineer or mixer or producer. It started as a hobby and I just kept on going. It eventually turned into my profession.
Q : How and when was did the nickname ¨Zeuss¨ come about?
A: It started with my friend and band mate at practice calling me by my last name « Harris » but he said it like (Hayroos). That morphed into « Hayzoos » then shortened to « zoos ». I ended up spelling it like Dr. Seuss so it’s spelled « Zeuss »
Q: How did you became probably one of the best producer in the world in rock/metal industry ?
A: Thanks for the compliment. I don’t really look at myself as that. I just give 110% of my abilities to every bands songs and sound that I work with. It’s a lot of hard work and commitment!
Q: Which artist did you like to work with the most ?
A : I don’t really have a favorite. My favorite artists are the ones that are not afraid to try new things and want to create something different from what they have ever done before.
Q : Which album do its your greatest achievements ? Can you explain your choice ?
A : I think at this point all of them are equally important. Every one has led to something else that has given me more knowledge and satisfaction musically.
Q : You produced dark album for dark band or agressive band like hatebreed, wednesday 13, rob zombie and more, why always work with this kind of sound ?
A : I actually never really choose it. I’m just known for doing certain things I guess. But I am not the type of producer that is pigeon holed into 1 style. I can work with extreme bands like Whitechapel or Suffocation or more thrash/death style like Revocation or then work with melodic/progressive bands like Queensrÿche/Iced Earth. Then switch it up and do a hardcore record like Bloodclot, Agnostic Front, Hatebreed etc. I like to switch it up as I like lots of styles.
Q : One of the last album you produced is Condolences of Wednesday 13. at my point of view, this is probably the best one of wednesday 13, what can you say about your work on the album ?
A : I love working with him and his band. Great people and great songwriters! They are very professional and always like to bring their record up a notch every time. We work well together and are on the same page. It’s actually more fun than work when I work with Wednesday.
Q : What can you say about the next album you work with rob zombie ?
A : I am working with him now and it’s always challenging every time. We push each other to come up with new ideas and sounds. He has absolutely no boundaries and is always looking to outdo himself. It’s also real fun because there are no rules. No one is telling him what to do and that’s great.
Q : What’s next for you Chris ?
A : Finish the Rob Zombie record and I’m involved with another very cool special artist that will be announced soon!
